The wind is blowing! (Notice that fed-up Mitzy!) This is the wind that was the terror of ships along the West Coast. The ocean is covered in those white foamy choppy waves we used to call "horses". On Facebook my Cape Town daughter and her friends are debating the wisdom of wearing skirts in the Cape during this season! I think this is the ideal time for some armchair travelling! Or cyber-travelling!
So if you want to read and read and read about our wonderful country, I can recommend some websites (whether they mention early summer windstorms is another question!)
These are the blogs who won the public voting part of the South African Blog Awards. They are big Tourism giants and they know how to promote the country! Those 'blog' awards need to compete in two separate classes for the big commercial sites, and another class for just blogs. Getaway is a magazine, and Portfolio Collection is upmarket guest-houses. I'd still vote for you, as a blog.
ReplyDeleteDiana, I felt like you did, but Travel, if you think about it is a major business. These travel websites saw a gap and started blogging too with full-time personell. But yes, (sigh) a blogger competition for us one-man bloggers would we nice too. Your own blog,I always think,is of a world standard!
ReplyDeleteGosh Marie, well done on entering the awards - I also think that they should separate it into the biggies and the littleies - and I did caste my vote for you despite the fact that I never seem to blog these days. We certainly haven't had the wind that you have! Wonder when it's coming?
ReplyDeleteThe seas have always drawn my imagination, my dreams. Your words coupled with the photo is doing the same all over again. It is easy to see why so many young men have been drawn to them as well.
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember those winds from when I worked in Cape Town in the early 70's Marie, trying to cling to your skirt and the lamp post at the same time! Quite amazing, thank heavens we have few such wind storms here in Gauteng, imagine all the dust!

Maree,then you probably also know the phenomenon of having an umbrella in your hand one moment and the next it is gone forever! Yes, lucky for you! Even here the dust is such a problem! "Where does it enter", we often sigh!
