Orderly Cows

Cows in the countryside can contribute greatly to the sense of peace and order. I was amazed when I took the byroads near Darling, at how evenly they spaced themselves while grazing! They follow the contours of the land and each gives the other a fair area to work their way through the grass. Not only is there a sense of personal space that they respect; I remember from my childhood days that they would also move homewards in a row, with no pushing at all.

I had to relay the above thoughts about cows, but I promise to stop trying to be poetic, and be more practical in my next post! There is a famous dairy industry here, after all!

My paintings and photos from the last two posts show a scene that is familiar here, but also in many countries in the world! The gallery owner in Hopefield chose these beautiful frames for me, so that the scenes look timeless and could even have been from an earlier age!

  1. Oh Marie, I LOVE your cows. I often wonder why I always delight in cows... I guess many of us do... They aren't REALLY cute, but somehow they are.
Yours are terrific and I'm glad they will be seen by many. Congrats on having your work in the show.

  2. What a lovely collection of the beautiful countryside inhabitants! I'll check out here in England (especially East Anglia) as to whether our cows are so polite to each other!

  6. Your cows are lovely. The personal space for cows is like that of horses. There is a pecking order and each cow/horse knows where they stand in the herd. As you watch the cows move through their day you learn more about them and their community.

  7. Beautiful scenes, Marie! I like the hear your poetic/personal experience thoughts on subjects such as this.
These cows are so respectful of maintaining personal distance, they'd never make it in the New York crowd...Lol!

    1. I would love to see cows all over the world, padmaja. Do you know the story of Chandigarh? Le Corbusier was drawing designs for the building when he focused on some cows nearby. The horns effect became part of the building designs!
