The first leg of the 2011 South African Blog Awards end 7 days from now! Will you vote for me on that large red icon on the right?
This serene tableau at Saldanha Bay caught my eye. The little yacht seemed quite neglegted and not in use anymore. But how elegant are those lines!!! In real estate one often hears about a house advertised as "a decorater's dream". This could be the yachting equavalent!
We owned a yacht with a Lello form and sailed a lot, as I mentioned before, but don't ask me to count the rigging. I battled so much with those thin lines, there was no way on completing the painting that I was going to go back to see whether they were all there!
Don't forget to vote for me in "Travel" on the 2011 South African Blog Awards! (This is new to me, but we are actually encouraged to canvas for votes.....everyone is welcome to vote but only one vote per e-mail address is allowed)
I used my one vote for Lifestyle on the Gardening Blog. But you got my vote for Travel!
ReplyDeleteHave no idea where the cleats are, but it looks fine to me Marie! Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteHow very kind of you, Diana!
ReplyDeleteMaree, it is the name for all those ropes! I am better off not selling this to a pro yachtsman! Thank you for the lovely remark!

ReplyDeleteYou have my vote, Marie!! You are the best around!
ReplyDeleteThe yacht in your painting appears to simply be looking for love. Like a old dog on the streets.
About edible fynbos? There was a herb and edible garden at the Hout Bay Museum. I have a booklet from them. And also at Kirstenbosch. We have wild amaranth, but I can't quite bring myself to try it. What if? I do eat Oxalis and Tulbaghia leaves.
ReplyDeleteThank you padmaja, I will do quite a few of these boating scenes now. Thank you for the vote and kind words!
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I thought you were lost! Sorry about losing your blog and goodluck with the new start. Thank you for the vote!

Yes, oxalis may be the first thing I try, Diana. I am interested in salads made from "spekboom" too, they look good in the book!
ReplyDeleteJust cast my vote for you, good luck! Have had a great time visiting your blog...good artwork as well as a nice insight to life on your side of the world!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann! Even if I do not make the finals, this voting spell brought many new visitors and I especially like it that you stopped to read some of my blog and left a comment!
ReplyDeleteHi Marie,
ReplyDeleteYou also have my vote. I've made sure you are on my sidebar blog roll so hopefully there will be no further issues. There was a bit of adjustment on the switch from blogspot to wordpress, but I'm ok there now. I wish I could get the thumbnails myself but that doesn't seem to be an option. It would make it much easier to see new posts.
We have so much in common- enjoying the water, boats, absorbing the beauty all around us that I think we could both spend our days simply sharing it, painting it, photographing it, describing it. It's So wonderful that you are publishing your blog as a book!! That's a thrilling prospect. I'm going back to read that great interview. It's always good to hear from you, Marie.
ReplyDeleteI voted for you. You deserve to win. Your blog illustrates life in a beautiful part of South Africa and your stories that go along with your lovely paintings make you blog so interesting.
ReplyDeleteJean

Love the reflection of the boat in the water too, Marie. I always thought the cleats were the metal prongs attached to the rim of the boat that lines were tied onto...? See what happens when I think? It all goes awry! You got my vote, by the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, thank you for both messages! You know what you have got me on those cleats. You are perfectly right. What I meant was the rigging! I will have to edit it now, thank you!
ReplyDeleteJill you can have a wonderful book too! This USA based company allows you to have as little as one book made up. Must I send a link? Thank you for your interest in my interview!
Thank you Jean, I was hoping to achieve that with my stories and paintings.
Jean LH, I appreciate it!
