A year has passed and again I break away from the West Coast theme to wish my American children and friends Happy Thanksgiving. My daughter Helen in Texas is cooking up a storm for her family and friends. I enjoyed Thanksgiving so much when I was there in November 2000. Ah, the yams, oven-baked with layers of apples in between, really complemented the turkey which my sun-in-law baked in an outside oven! Spending very little on "props and flowers", she always creates a most beautiful table setting. Yesterday she told me: " Mom, we embrace this holiday, because there are always so much to be thankful for!"
The friends I want to send these wishes to are the few I know in person and the many kind people I have met and chatted with in the blogging world and the social media. I include the over 1600 secret and very silent US people who have visited my blog the last eighteen months. Enjoy, everyone!
This painting of a very South African-looking pumpkin farm is part of about 10 paintings I made when I was still planning my blog, then of course I decided on another formula of smaller and historically correct works. So these paintings have not been framed or exhibited. They fit nowhere in my oevre, but Mitzy the Maltese thinks that they do give some colour to her corner!
It is a lovely holiday isn't it? How wonderful to have experienced one over there in the US. Your pumpkin farm painting is bright and beautiful - the pumpkin looks made of pure gold! Good job for planning a formula for your blog, it works so well. (I should have done that too - mine bumbles along in all directions!)
ReplyDeleteLovely paintings Marie. Are they in oil? They are very dramatic and definitely represent a bountiful harvest. In Canada we had our Thanksgiving back in October, but then we have our main harvest much earlier since it gets colder sooner. We are having our first snow as I write, but it won't stay on the ground yet.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I love your earlier works. In fact I am with Mitzy, she has great taste.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you Marie, enjoy the day.
Joan
Thank you for the lovely heartfelt wishes! The turkey and ham are in the oven, the table is set and the house is filled with the aroma of freshly baked apple pie. Wish that you were here! Love the pumpkin farm painting! xxxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy. It was a wonderful experience. I am now so glad that I kept a journal with photos, recipes and all!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine. Now that you mention it I can see the meat, veg and pie ingredients being offered in the paintings. They are all in acrylic but on large canvasses! I was not aware of the Canadian Thanksgiving, I suppose there is a history behind it too?
Ah thank you, Joan! I will ask Mitzy to market those paintings for me!
Helen, I can smell your kitchen,I am sure it is all taste and flavour today! Looking forward to receive the photos! Love, M!
Mitzi is a very lucky lady to be surrounded by such excellent art! Talk about a cultured dog!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Marie. I am very thankful to have blogging friends like you!
Here in Australia we dont have thanks giving but on my day op yesterday I was amused to find a few references to it. Love your pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteLovely work Marie, I see gratitude towards nature for its ever bountiful supply to the mankind..!
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder that Mitzi enjoys her corner!!
ReplyDeleteI think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday .... we celebrate our gifts rather than expecting them.... I hope you don't miss your children too much...
Be well, Marie!
Thank you, Dean, you put a smile on my face!
ReplyDeleteThank you, padmaja, I love hearing that from a person who is so wonderfully in touch with nature!
Thank you, Penny, I will visit your blog too if you have one!
Thank you, Cathyann. I remember the day after Thanksgiving, we were queing in the dark, cold, rainy morning for the Day-after sales. What fun, as you drink coffee and chat to strangers!
Wise words about Thanksgiving. You are so right, nobody expects anything and a pie dropped at a neighbor's house is a wonderful gesture. I do miss my children, but technology really bring them close!
Thanks for stopping by and your wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving. This morning the snow is falling softly, silently... Yams and apples layered? Yum, my family doesn't have that recipe... It is a nice holiday based around food and family.
ReplyDeleteMarie, thanks so much for your heartfelt wishes. We are having a lovely Thanksgiving weekend. Yesterday with my family and today with Bob's. I am one of the outspoken folks from the USA.
ReplyDeleteI love your paintings that have a very folk quality to them. Mitzi must be really special!
Hi Susan, snow on Thanksgiving Day! Now that is very special! I was amazed at the sweet yam dishes for Thanksgiving when I was there. The local paper even published a yam dish recipe that had marshmallows on top.
ReplyDeleteHa-ha, Mary, thanks for standing up and be counted! I am glad that you have such ongoing celebrations, sounds good!
Angels and pumpkins! I'm playing catch up here - again... Absolutely love these gems Marie!
ReplyDeleteJust come when you are ready, Liz! No pressure! Thank you for your kind comments!
ReplyDeletethe peculiar style which you have in the paintings is fantastic...
ReplyDeletethe way in which you use the color to achieve the is style makes it classic...
congratulations...
Marie, Very nice sentiments. Yes, we do have a lot to be thankful for. Sometimes we need to stop and reflect and thanksgiving is a time for that.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful painting! I really like the country feel of it. And your thoughts about Thanksgiving are just wonderful. What great things to be thankful for. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to be able to rely on a wonderful story always following your 'west coast' theme whenever I check out your blog, but these American pictures were delightful too -- beautifully done, Marie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sethu, I must admit that I experiment a lot with styles!
